Since its creation in 2018, Maria Frering has been a brand dedicated to celebrating women at every stage of its process: hiring, designing and creating with them in mind.
The Lugar Collection draws inspiration from the work of the renowned American artist Judy Chicago, who, since the 1970s, has devoted her practice to highlighting the gaps in the recognition of women’s work throughout history. Judy employs techniques historically associated with women, such as embroidery, to give voice to those who have been erased or undervalued — an artistic language that we at Maria Frering have embraced as our signature from the very beginning.

One of Judy Chicago’s most striking works, The Dinner Party, forms part of the collection of the Brooklyn Museum in New York. In this iconic creation, a triangular table presents 39 place settings, each dedicated to an extraordinary woman, with names and symbols embroidered to celebrate their stories and achievements.
Inspired by this work, we see our collections as a way of “offering a place at the table” to the women around us: from the artists who inspire us, to the women whose hands create, produce and manage our brand, and finally to the client whom we wish to see celebrated when wearing our pieces.
In addition to honouring the strength and legacy of women, Judy Chicago also expresses in her work a profound respect for nature. At one stage in her career, she reflected on extinction — both her own mortality and the irreparable losses within nature. In this collection, we seek to capture this duality through forms that, although symmetrical and harmonious, subtly allude to floral or maritime elements. These are creations that evoke the natural curves of the feminine and celebrate the continuity of life in all its forms.
In the Lugar Collection, each creation embodies a celebration of the feminine, a connection with nature, and a commitment to telling stories that deserve to be remembered.
